Recently, the top non-fungible token project, Azuki, was the target of a cyber attack. On Friday, the hackers were able to compromise the project’s Twitter account, resulting in the loss of over $750,000 worth of crypto assets. Through the posting of a wallet drainer link disguised as an invitation for users to participate in a virtual land mint in The Garden, Azuki’s native metaverse platform, the bad actors were able to drain $751,321, or 81 worth of USDC from one wallet within 30 minutes of the malicious link being posted. In addition to this, the hackers also made away with over 3.9 ETH, 11 NFTs, and $6,742.62 in USDC from other crypto wallets.
Emily Rose, Azuki’s community manager, was the first to confirm the project’s Twitter profile had been hacked, warning users not to click on any link posted by the account. Following the cyber attack, Azuki has been able to take back control of its Twitter account, removing all malicious tweets. The management team of the anime-based NFT project has also released a statement on the attack, saying that an investigation has been launched and advising its followers to check that any future announcements were posted simultaneously on Azuki’s several media channels to ascertain their validity.
In the wake of this attack, Azuki has taken steps to ensure the safety of its users and the security of its platform. In addition to the investigation, the team is taking extra precautionary measures to make sure such an attack cannot happen again. Furthermore, they have urged all users to take extra care when clicking on any links and to exercise caution when engaging in any transactions on the platform.
Overall, this cyber attack has highlighted the importance of cyber security when it comes to the world of crypto assets. As more and more projects become vulnerable to such malicious activity, it is essential that users remain vigilant and take the necessary steps to protect their investments.
